In March 2002, Germany acceded to the Hague Convention of 29 May 1993 on Protection of Children and Cooperation in Respect of Intercountry Adoption (Hague Adoption Convention). This Convention implements the objectives of the 1989 United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child in the field of international adoption.
In Germany, the placement of domestic and foreign children for adoption is regulated by the Adoption Placement Act (AdVermG). In addition, the provisions of the Hague Convention, which ensure quality standards, have been in force since 2002. The Local Association for Youth and Social Affairs in Baden-Württemberg is the superordinate authority responsible for us.
Adoption agencies must be licensed by the state and must provide professionals with sufficient professional experience in the field of adoption placement.During the placement process, it must be ensured that the applicant family is mentally, physically and financially able to care for a child.
