Adoptions from Czech Republic
The Czech Republic signed the Hague Convention on the Protection of Children in 2000 and ratified it and brought it into force in 2001.
Accordingly, intercountry adoptions are carried out in accordance with the implementing legislation for the Hague Convention and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
In June 2001, a central authority was established in Brno to handle adoptions in accordance with the principle of subsidiarity, meaning that domestic adoptions take precedence over intercountry adoptions.
These are almost exclusively Sinti and Roma children.
